The Miracle of the Endless Grain Sack

Verse of the Day

यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत। अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम्॥

Bhagavad Gita 4.7

Long ago, in the holy village of Virpur (Gujrat), lived a great saint named Shree Jalaram Bapa. He lived a very simple life. He owned nothing, yet his heart was filled with love and faith. Every breath of his life was devoted to Lord Vishnu, whom he worshipped with deep surrender.

Jalaram Bapa believed that God lives in every hungry being. For him, feeding people was not charity it was worship.

THE SADAVRAT OF SEVA

Jalaram Bapa and his wife Virbai ran a Sadavrat—a place where food was served freely to all.

Saints, travelers, poor villagers, and tired souls came every day.

They never asked, “Who are you?”

They only asked, “Have you eaten?”

They had no wealth and no large store of grain. Some days, the sack of grain looked almost empty. Yet Bapa and Virbai never worried.

They trusted Lord Vishnu completely.

Virbai would say softly,

“If we cook with faith, the Lord will arrange the food.”

The saint decided to test their devotion.

THE DIVINE TEST

One day, a powerful wandering saint came to Virpur. He watched quietly. He saw Bapa serving others before himself. He saw Virbai cooking with love, even when grain was scarce. He saw a home where nothing was held backnot food, not comfort, not ego. The saint decided to test their devotion.

He said to Jalaram Bapa,

“If you truly see Lord Vishnu in everyone, then give me your wife.”

The people around were shocked. But Jalaram Bapa did not hesitate.

With folded hands, he said calmly,

“Maharaj, nothing in this house belongs to me.

Everything belongs to the Lord.

If this is His wish, I accept it.”

Virbai stepped forward with peace in her eyes.

She bowed and said,

“If my sacrifice serves the Lord’s will, I am ready.”

THE BLESSING OF ANN-BRAHMA

The saint immediately raised his hand.

He said,

Stop. This was not a demand it was a test. Today, I have seen true Vishnu-bhakti. You see God not only in temples, but in living beings.

He then blessed Jalaram Bapa with a sack of grains and said,

“As long as this grain is used only for selfless service, this sack will never become empty. For where ann-daan is done with devotion, Lord Vishnu Himself resides.”

THE ENDLESS MIRACLE

From that day, a quiet miracle began. No matter how much grain was taken for ten people, for a hundred people, or for an entire village the sack never became empty. Every morning, it looked full again. The Sadavrat continued day and night. During times of drought and famine, when nearby villages suffered, Jalaram Bapa’s kitchen never closed. People came hungry and left nourished in body and in soul.

When people praised him, Bapa would smile gently and say,

“This is not my miracle. This is the grace of Lord Vishnu. I only offer food He provides it.”

For Bapa, feeding the hungry was equal to feeding the Lord Himself.

THE ETERNAL MESSAGE

The endless grain sack became a symbol of divine truth: Where there is selfless service, God is present. Where there is surrender, abundance flows. Where food is shared with love, Jagannath smiles.

Even today, devotees remember this sacred story and bow with folded hands, chanting,

JAI JAGANNATH! JAI JALARAM!
